Specialist Engineering Contractor, McGee, working on the Bankside Yard West site, have achieved a new milestone for the company. The concrete pour that completed this month, set a new company record for a single, continuous pour.
The operation involved the placing of 1615m3 of concrete at Basement Level 2, to complete the 3m deep basement raft slab beneath the central building on the site. We used 4 pumps to place 215 loads of concrete in just under 12 hours.
Lem Berihun, Senior Project Manager commented, “Our meticulous planning and preparation alongside our hard working supervisors across the different trades, including our steel fixers, who installed over 400ton of reinforcement in less than 2 weeks, ground-workers, carpenters and our hard working concrete gang enabled the self-delivery of this record-setting concrete pour.
We also extend our thanks to our concrete supplier, Tarmac, for taking this challenge and allocating sufficient resources to feed the site and make the pour possible.”
McGee extended its original demolition contract for the Bankside Yard mixed use development, to become a fully integrated deep-basement over the whole site footprint as well as the RC core for the imposing new 230,000 sqft offices building. The site is also set to include a 240-home apartment building and 49,500sqft of independent retail, restaurant, cultural and amenity space in the restored railway arches.
Seb Fossey, Managing Director at McGee concludes, “This milestone is not only for the project, but for everyone here at McGee as it demonstrates clearly that when we work together we will deliver on the commitments we make. It’s testament to the team that they have brought together the capability and technical expertise to deliver such an achievement, not least during the current challenging times.”
