London-based specialist contractor, McGee has today announced that it is strengthening its piling capability with three key appointments into the business.
Joining the business from Cementation Skanska, where he has been the Director responsible for London Projects, Shane Baker (pictured) has been appointed as Head of Piling bringing 25 years’ industry experience, working globally on high-profile and technically challenging schemes.
Joining alongside him, and also from Cementation Skanska are Julian Mansfield who takes the role of Piling Pre-construction Manager and Darren Smallman who has been appointed as Piling Operations Manager.
Together they bring an enviable depth of experience and will provide strong and respected leadership for the McGee piling team.
The move will allow McGee to self-deliver piling across all its own projects, providing high value and technically strong solutions for their clients; whilst remaining agile in its ability to respond to their needs. It also aligns with their strategy to provide clients with a full ‘integrated service’ and completes the final piece of this proposition.
Seb Fossey, Managing Director Designate, said:
“We believe that successful delivery is predicated on having strong people in our team, and so I’m delighted to announce that we are expanding our expertise by adding three of the best from the piling sector to lead and develop our piling offering.
Not only are we proud of our people, but also of our demonstrable ability to develop and deliver exceptional engineering solutions on some of the most challenging projects around the Capital. This move to broaden our in-house piling capability reinforces our ability to drive value and provide certainty to our clients which sits at the heart of what we do.”
Founded by Tom McGee in 1959, the family business is going from strength to strength and is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. McGee was named Contractor of the Year (£25m+ turnover) 2019 at the Construction News Specialists Award.
Last month McGee also moved their head office to central London, relocating to the 9th floor of the Alto Tower at South Bank Central – an investment focussed on moving technical and operational expertise closer to clients and projects, and to give staff a modern place where they are proud to spend their working day.
