McGee’s technical expertise and state-of-the-art technology were crucial to the construction of Park Modern, a £450m mixed-use development with views of Kensington Palace and its surrounding gardens. Once completed, Park Modern will form a 17,700m2 development, with 57 luxury residences, as well as 2,800m2 of premium commercial space.
The development, located on a prime freehold city block next to Queensway London Underground station, bordered by Bayswater Road, Queensway and Inverness Terrace, required McGee to operate within a restricted residential area. McGee was contracted to carry out demolition works and the installation of secant wall piles, tower crane piles and temporary plunge column piles.
McGee has been self-delivering piling works for over 15 years. In advance of the project it strengthened its piling capability with several key appointments to expand the experience and expertise of the team. McGee supported this with further investment in the latest in multi-discipline hydraulic piling equipment. The state-of-the-art Bauer BG33 piling rigs are integrated with Bauer’s energy-efficient power technology, reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
Seb Fossey, Group Managing Director, said, “Our central London expertise played an important role in the successful completion of the technically challenging development at Park Modern. Our operating model, industry experience and state-of-the-art piling equipment ensured the delivery of exceptional standards whilst minimising the impact of the works on the local community.”
