From more than 100 entries, McGee has been selected as a finalist in the Health and Safety category of this year’s Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Excellence Awards 2018.
Having been crowned CILT’s Freight Transport Best Practice award winner 2017, McGee is delighted to be in the running for another prestigious CILT award.
The Health and Safety category recognises companies for outstanding achievement in any area of health and safety improvement, including road safety initiatives as well as on-site initiatives and collaborations.
It is hoped the CILT Awards will provide McGee with the ultimate seal of approval for outstanding work in Health and Safety as this shortlisting comes as a result of their continued and dedicated work to protecting vulnerable road users through evaluating new and innovative ways of raising standards in road safety.
To achieve this year’s shortlist, McGee collaborated with BSc Product Design students from Nottingham Trent University. McGee set the students a brief to design a cycle safety ‘system’ for a tipper lorry. The success of this brief led to the creation of the now patented ‘Flexi-Flag’ and copyrighted ‘Side Indicator’ designed by our first Undergraduate Placement Student, which lets cyclists and other vulnerable road users know that the vehicle is turning.
McGee strives for the highest standards in delivering freight transport best practice and is committed to safety, environmental impact and efficient fleet management whilst continually reviewing its vehicles, driver behaviour, and processes. This is all in addition to their calendar of events which sees McGee teaching primary school children about how to stay safe around construction sites and supporting the Met Police ‘Exchanging Places’ programme.
John McGee, Director, said:
“Safety is our core value and has been the cornerstone of our business since its creation. Working alongside Nottingham Trent University has allowed us to develop fresh ideas such as our Side Indicator and Flexi-Flag. These are exciting innovations in our journey of continuous improvement and can only add value to the industry’s collective ambition towards making our roads safe for all.
I am delighted that McGee has been selected as a finalist for the Health and Safety CILT Award as it reflects our dedication to protecting the people we share the roads with.”
The CILT Annual Awards honours excellence throughout the profession and celebrates talent, innovation, and success across the nine sectors that the institute represents with the keenly contested Awards which shows off the outstanding work that they carry out.
The year’s winners will be announced at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London on Thursday 19 October 2018, where the winners will be announced to an audience of over 500 professionals, from all sect6ors, made up from finalists, dignitaries and invited guests and the media.
