From the beauty industry to construction, we spoke to Laura to find out more.
Hey Laura, tell us a little about you?
I’m originally from Cork, Ireland and decided to move to London in 2011 when job vacancies in Ireland were at an all-time low. I completed short-term temp work but wanted a change and a more stable career.
What were you doing before your role here?
I started my career with McGee in 2016 with no previous background in construction. My background was in the beauty industry, where I trained and worked for ten years. I was very nervous about joining the industry as it was entirely new for me, and I didn’t know what to expect. I started with the company as a site administrator. Five and a half years later, I have progressed to senior project coordinator on one of our key projects with a wealth of knowledge, training, and experience.
What’s next?
I’m currently completing a Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship with the view to working towards becoming a project manager one day.
What was it like starting in construction?
It hasn’t always been easy as some days I felt utterly out of my depth, being asked to complete work that I didn’t have prior knowledge of, but my site team were such amazing people and had the patience and kindness to train me and teach me everything I needed to know. The company put me on training courses to further my knowledge of the field and my career.
Why McGee?
McGee is willing to further educate and train their employees to help them progress their careers and help them figure out where they want to go within the company.
